Scabies is being taken into the UK by migrants from Calais that have the itchy mites. It is estimated that more than 200 migrants carrying the mites are set to hit the UK. Scabies is highly contagious The condition causes intense itching and rashes, and can be caught by simple skin contact with a carrier.
It is believed that the disease spread due to showers no longer being provided by the charity Secours Catholique. They had to be shut them down as they could no longer cope with the rising number of migrants!
Four local charities are coming together to in an attempt to tackle the problem in Ausgust 2009.

If a person has Norwegian scabies they will have many more of the mites on their body than with normal scabies. It is vital for Nowegian scabies treatment to start immediately. ! How Do You Get Scabies ? Its one of the first questions asked when you realise what the horrible itchy pimples are. No, it does not mean you are dirty or unclean, like most people believe. Scabies are very contagious and you need to keep away from others until the scabies mites have been cleared. Scabies are easily passed on through person to person. However the scabie mites spread not just through skin contact (a simple hand-shake would be enough), also through sharing clothing or towels. Scabies can even be passed on through lounge chairs or cuddly toys.
When treating scabies, you need to be extremely thorough, if you are not it wont be long before you will be doing the whole thing again, trust me I made this mistake myself. It is important to treat the whole household, other family members may be 'silent carriers of scabies', you dont have to be itchy and pimply to have scabies. Also, wash all bedding, steam carpets and mattresses. Wash cuddly toys - anything that the scabie mites can cling to, however they do not survive for long off of the human skin. Anything that you are unable to wash put in a bin bag, seal tightly and put away for a couple of weeks.
The creams that doctors perscribe for scabies (not mentioning names here) have, get this, actually been linked to cancer and leukiama. I didnt find this out until after the first application (which did not work, I hasten to add). I am quite disappointed in myself, as usually I look up lotions, medication before usage. I was just so desperate to get rid of my sons itchy nights.
